Day Skipper in Puerto Portals, Mallorca

Day Skipper is where you move from handling a boat to thinking like the skipper: planning, positioning, decisions and responsibility. At Balearic Sea School, based in Puerto Portals, 07181, Calvià, Mallorca, we keep the approach practical and calm, focusing on the routines that make skippering feel clear rather than stressful. The aim isn’t to overload you with theory, it’s to help you lead a day on the water with confidence, good judgement and a method you can repeat.

Common course questions

Is Day Skipper suitable if I’m new to boating?
It’s best if you already have basic handling confidence. If you’re new, we’ll usually recommend starting with a practical handling course first.
Will this course help me feel more confident taking friends or family out?
Yes. The course builds the planning habits, decision-making and calm leadership that make trips feel safer and more enjoyable for everyone onboard.
Do I need my own boat?
Not necessarily. Tell us what you have access to and what your goals are, and we’ll advise the best approach.
Will we cover boat handling as well as navigation?
Yes, but with a skipper focus. Handling becomes part of running the day properly: timing, positioning, safety and crew communication.
Where does training take place?
We’re based in Puerto Portals, Calvià, Mallorca, with training carried out in local waters as conditions allow.
How do I arrange the course?
